Architect: Christian Louboutin Beauty

Christian Louboutin Beaute approached TM Light to design the lighting for their flagship store within Saks Fifth Avenue in New York, with the idea that the lighting concepts established in this space would be carried forward to the other spaces within the rapidly expanding Louboutin retail network.

The design of the project is rooted in the notion of lighting as a ‘texture’. Just as the architecture is composed of an intense layering of material, the lighting is as well. For example, a central light cove in the ceiling glows subtly to reveal gold leaf flakes embedded within the resin; a series of uplights embedded within the shelves of the store exaggerate the glass and metal textures of the bottled products; glowing surfaces behind the products illuminate brand-specific graphic patterns and materials. TM Light even developed a custom shadow projection developed from a brand-specific pattern that grazes the arched ceiling surfaces; a final touch of lighting-as-texture.
